Congratulations to the Winners of the
2008 Children’s Water Conservation Poster Contest

This is the City of Santa Fe’s Fifth Annual Children’s Water Conservation Poster Contest. Santa Fe’s 1st through 6th grade students submitted more than 650 posters for consideration. All winners will receive a trophy and prize package. First and second place winners will be included in the 2009 water conservation calendar, and first place winners receive a $100 dollar United States Savings Bond.

All contestants were judged on water conservation message, neatness, creativity, originality, and visual effectiveness. The panel of judges included City Manager Galen Buller, City Councilor Patti Bushee and city employees Valerie Chelonis, Peggy Doolittle and Randy Sugrue.

This year’s Grand Prize winner is Tatyana Stavrowsky, a fifth grade student from Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences. The selection committee felt the winning poster was very creative, original, and had a catchy water conservation message. Valerie Chelonis emphasized “I know that when I first saw it, it was the winner to me because it was a unique use of an image and a play on a word. It showed a sense of humor about a serious subject so that people would get the message in a positive way.” The Grand Prize winning poster will be displayed as a water conservation message on a City of Santa Fe bus for one year.

The City of Santa Fe City Council will celebrate the creative efforts of the winners of the Fifth Annual Children’s Water Conservation Poster Contest on May 14, 2008 at 5 p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers, 200 Lincoln Ave. The ceremony will honor the 18 outstanding student artists who won this year’s contest. Their winning posters will be on display at City Hall from May 14 through May 30.
